The published backstory is a knight whose expedition against the abyss consumed him. Patch notes set base speed to 19.55 studs per second (115%) on November 29, 2025. On May 16, 2026 the lunge became 25 studs per second for 0.5 seconds, Dark Severance's cooldown became 30 seconds (from 20), and Abyssal Burst's duration became 4 seconds (from 7). Rankings call Burst a map-wide 50% slow. Survivor notes say the horizontal slash can be crouched and that Burst has a sound cue.

Use Burst when survivors are on generators or grouped, not as a panic button in a dead zone. Line Dark Severance through survivors who are stacked at a window. Respect the 30 second slash cooldown.
